[ARCHIVED] Water Meter Replacements



The City of Pewaukee Water & Sewer Utility (Utility) is required by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to periodically replace city water meters in our customers’ homes and businesses. The Utility will be sending letters to properties with information regarding the water meter replacement program.  


Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), enforced by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, recently established a new requirement for all public water systems to “develop an inventory to identify the materials of service lines connected to the public water distribution system. The inventory must include all service lines connected to the public water distribution system regardless of ownership status.” This means the Utility must conduct this mandatory piping inspection for all 3,400 municipal water customers, and it must be completed and submitted to the EPA by October 2024. 


To make the most efficient use of time for our customers, the Utility is combining its efforts to complete the water meter replacement, cross connection inspection, and perform the pipe inventory all in one appointment. There is no charge to you for the new water mater. 


You can be proactive by testing the water shut off valves above and below your meter setting to ensure that they work prior to your inspection. To do this, start by locating your water meter. Then turn off each valve independently and check a nearby faucet the make sure the water flow has stopped. If your valves are not working, please have them repaired. The valves are part of the plumbing in your home and the Utility will not schedule your appointment until your valves are working properly. The City of Pewaukee is not responsible for maintenance or repair of faulty valves, or for any damage resulting from inoperable pipes, valves, or other equipment. 


Additional information will be included in the letter you receive from the Utility when it comes time for the meter change/pipe inventory to take place in your area. Until you receive a letter from the Utility, you are not required to schedule an appointment.
