It’s Time to Check Your Mailbox
With winter quickly approaching, our crew is inspecting and readying vehicles for snow plowing. Sometimes the weight of the snow coming off the plow can knock down a mailbox or sometimes a plow driver may hit a mailbox when plowing along the curb line. To reduce the chance of damage to your mailbox, it is important that you to conduct an annual check-up and perform routine maintenance before the snow falls. Over time the ground settles and shifts which can cause your mailbox to sink, tip forward or be weakened so it is unable to handle the weight of the snow being pushed against it. Check the condition of your mailbox and support post to make sure it is strong enough to withstand snow coming off the end of the plow. And remember to clear the area around your mailbox after every snowfall. The Department of Public Works staff appreciates your patience and understanding during our cold, snowy Wisconsin winters.
