1. When are Building Inspectors available?

Inspectors have dedicated office hours from 7-10 a.m. daily. After 10 a.m. they are available by appointment as this time is set aside for inspections.

2. Do I need a building permit for a fence around my house?

A building permit is required for fences over 6 feet in height and for all masonry walls.

3. Do I have to pay when I drop off a building/plumbing/electrical permit application?

No you don't have to pay when you drop off the permit application, but it is recommended to eliminate possible delays in processing. Once your application is reviewed the Inspector or Clerical staff will call you with the amount due. For most projects the permit will not be issued until payment is received.

4. How long does it take to get a Building Permit?

Our goal is to provide the service within 10 working days for residential project and 14 working days for commercial projects.

5. Can I schedule an inspection by email or voicemail?

No. All inspection requests need to be made directly with any staff member which can be done by calling during office hours. If you need a specific time for an inspection those appointments must be made with an Inspector.

6. When will an inspection be done?

Inspection requests must be called in directly to a staff member for scheduling during office hours. If an inspection is called in by 9 a.m. staff will make all attempts to conduct the inspection the same day, however advance notice of 24 hours is appreciated. If an inspection requires a special time, that must be arranged with the inspector directly. Please note that it is difficult to meet exact times as the previous appointment could have difficulties that cause a delay. We do encourage the use of lock boxes if no one is available to be present.

7. Do I have to have an inspection?

Yes. All work that is done that requires a permit must be inspected at the requisite intervals per building code and practices.

8. How do I schedule an inspection?

To schedule an inspection call our office 262-691-9107 during office hours and speak with any staff member. You do not have to speak directly to an inspector unless you need a time that is outside of the normal inspection times, 10 a.m to 2 p.m..

9. When are permit inspections scheduled?

Permit inspections are scheduled for between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.. We make all attempts to meet any special requests like: as early as possible, as late as possible and call ahead. If a more specific time frame or one outside these hours is needed, it will have to be scheduled directly with an Inspector. Please call (262) 691-9107.
