  • The City of Pewaukee's policy is to assess each property when work is completed and benefits a property. Assessments for roadway projects and drainage projects are capped at a maximum amount that is adjusted annually. Sewer and Water assessments are essentially for the full amount of the project cost minus any over sizing or items that are deemed to benefit the entire system.
    Assessments
  • A payment or partial payment of your special assessment made on or before November 1 will avoid the addition of interest to that assessment year.

  • The water utility is required to operate under rules established by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. The rules were set so that the Utility would bill the customer for the accurate amount of so that the Utility would bill the customer for the accurate amount of water consumed. As with anything, meters wear out over time. These are similar requirements established for the electric and gas utilities in the state.
    Water and Sewer
  • The City of Pewaukee Municipal water supply operates two water systems. Both systems are served from ground water wells. The East Side (Main) system which serves the area of the City East of Hwy 16 to Springdale Road, has 7 ground water wells. The West Side system (Highlands Coop) lies west of Hwy 16 to approximately Hwy SS/I-94. Three groundwater wells currently serve this area.
    Water and Sewer
  • The Department of Natural Resources requires that we disinfect the water at each water pumping station. The stations are scattered throughout the City. Your home maybe located in close proximity to one of these sites. There is also a possibility that your home is some distance away. In this case, there is a phenomenon knows as "break point" being reached. This actually is a reduction in chlorine levels, but the odor actually becomes more noticeable. Try filling a pitcher of water and chill in the refrigerator. The chlorine will dissipate over time.
    Water and Sewer
  • This is the "curb box" for your property. This pipe allows the Utility &/or your plumber to shut off the water to your home if the valves fail inside your home. A special "key/wrench" accesses a valve below the ground that will shut off the water service to your home. It is the property owners responsibility to keep this pipe accessible and not damage, or fill with debris. Please DO NOT plant trees, cover with landscaping etc. The valve cover should sit flush with the ground so that you can mow over it. Sometimes the "curb box" will wind up in your driveway. Please contact the Utility BEFORE you pave or pour concrete. We should make sure the pipe/valve is working correctly. It would be a terrible waste to pave, and then need to tear it out because repairs are required.
    Water and Sewer
  • The City of Pewaukee does not add fluoride to the water. There is a natural level of fluoride contained in the well water. The natural level in the East Side water system is .42 ppm.The natural level in the West Side water system is .45 ppm.
    Water and Sewer
  • Typically, the Utility will extend water main for three reasons: 1) The City intends to pave out an existing subdivision: 2) A developer/the Utility is required to extend municipal water service to a new subdivision. 3) The residents of an existing subdivision petition the City to extend services.
    Water and Sewer
  • The answer is NO. Water systems are designed to provide quality water service to there customers and equally important to provide fire protection to your property. Screening and landscaping around a fire hydrant is highly discouraged. Screening is bad for the Fire Department when approaching a fire. Landscaping around the hydrant makes it difficult when Utility staff is conducting the semi-annual flushing program. Screening and landscaping around a fire hydrant is highly discouraged. Screening is bad for the Fire Department when approaching a fire. Landscaping around the hydrant makes it difficult when Utility staff is conducting the semi-annual flushing program. Utility staff does not take any pleasure in "blowing" water and wood chips all over the place when trying make sure your hydrant works correctly.

  • When you or your contractor calls Diggers Hotline the Utility is notified that there will be work in your yard. • Interest of 10% per annul will start accruing at the close of business on the due date. Under state law failure to receive a bill does not affect the validity of the bill or any interest or fines incurred due to late payment(s). It is the responsibility of the homeowner to secure his/her water bill when one is not received.
    Water and Sewer
  • The water utility is only responsibility for the meter that the Utility owns. The Utility does not install, or own the valves in a private residence/building. We highly encourage owners to exercise the valves around the water meter periodically. Valves seize up if not operated on a regular basis. It is in your best interest. We've had a few 'catastrophic' incidents where washing machine hoses fail, or other emergency plumbing failures cause even more damage because valves were inoperable.
    Water and Sewer
  • The Utility contracts out sewer cleaning every year. Approximately one third of the system is cleaned each time. Therefore, you will see the cleaning crew once every three years.
    Water and Sewer
  • All basements contain floor drain systems. These drains should be installed with J - traps. The trap when filled with water should not allow any sewer gas to come through. If you notice the smell with no back up, pour a bucket of water down the drain. This will fill the trap again.
    Water and Sewer

At this time we do not have another elevated tower that can store water and control water pressure. The City is in the process of getting authorization from the FAA and Waukesha County to put up a new water tower on Ridgeview Parkway Court. Once approval is received and a new tower is constructed and operational, the City will be able to take down the water tower at city hall for repair or permanent removal.
    Public Works

    Public Works
  • It is difficult to give an exact timeline for each road to be repaved. The City has adopted a 5-year road program as part of its annual budget. Please note that this is a planning document and at times funding or utility issues delay the projects.
    Public Works
  • Please note that the City owns approximately 15 feet (this does vary throughout the community) from the edge of pavement. Landscape items should not be located within this right of way to prevent damage by the City. The mailbox is required to be located within this right of way and we make every effort to avoid it during our plowing operations. You may submit a request to have your mailbox on a list for repairs. Please note that repairs will be made after the event clean up is completed which can be up to several weeks after the initial event depending on its severity. Contact the Streets Department for more information: 262-691-0771.
    Public Works
  • The State owns and maintains all roads that are state highways. These are designed by numbers (for example, STH 190 which is Capitol Drive). The County owns and maintains all roads that are county highways which are designated by letters (for example, CTH F which is Redford Boulevard). The City generally owns the remainder of the streets except for a few which are private roadways.
    Public Works
  • The City tries very hard to avoid any damage to the shoulder during plowing operation. However, it is sometimes difficult to see the edge of pavement during and after snow events. Damage that is reported or known will be repaired in the Spring after plowing operations are completed for the season and the weather is conducive to these repairs. If you are not sure if your damage is known, please submit a request to ensure you are on the list for the Spring repairs.
    Public Works
  • The City owns very few of the lights in the community. Many of the lights are owned and maintained by the County or the State. If the light is not located on a County or State highway and it is located in the City, you may submit a request to have it serviced. This may take time to complete as we contract with We Energies for these lights and their maintenance.

Fire Prevention and Safety

6
  • Yes proper escape planning in the event of a fire is paramount. Fire can spread quickly leaving you little time to escape safely once an alarm sounds. A few basic tips include: - Draw a home escape plan and discuss it will all members of your household. - Include at least 2 ways out of every room if possible. Make sure doors and windows leading outside open easily. - Make sure smoke detectors are installed properly. - Practice the plan night and day with everyone in your household twice a year. These are just a few tips for more comprehensive planning checklists and worksheets please visit the National Fire Protection Association website for Escape Planning.
    Fire Prevention and Safety
  • Yes the Fire Department has specialized equipment to test the air for Caron Monoxide. A sounding detector could mean that there is a high concentration of Carbon Monoxide in your home. Carbon Monoxide is called the "Silent Killer" because it can reduce the amount of oxygen we breathe and since Carbon Monoxide is odorless you have no idea when you have a leak.
    Fire Prevention and Safety
  • These are not required by law but are desirable. When the detector activates evacuate the house open windows and doors and contact the gas company or plumber to check gas appliances. Detectors are likely to go off in the winter months when houses are closed up and heaters are on. If your detector sounds an alarm and if anyone in the house has a headache feels nauseous or ill, call the fire department.
    Fire Prevention and Safety
  • Not all firefighters are paramedics although all firefighters are trained to at least the level of EMT Basic.
    Fire Prevention and Safety
  • Properly installed and maintained automatic fire sprinkler systems are reliable systems that help save lives. Read more about how they are being adopted nationally, support to require them in all new 1 and 2 family construction, how they work, and more at the National Fire Protection Association website.
    Fire Prevention and Safety
  • You are only allowed to burn yard debris. No garbage, tires, treated wood, used building materials or like materials may be burned. Please note that a burning permit is required. Please see the Licenses web page for additional information.

  • There is detailed information regarding rentals including rates, guidelines and procedures on the Parks/Recreation Department webpage under Rent A Park. To rent a park, you must call the office at 262-691-7275. If you have found such items at a park, please drop it off at the Parks & Recreation office in Pewaukee City Hall.

To that end, the Department offers inclusive recreational programs and activities. The term “Inclusion” means that individuals with disabilities are “included” in our recreation programs. People with and without disabilities participate together in the same way, in the same place, and enjoy the same benefits. Our Department is pleased to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.
